As part of our ongoing commitment to fragrance writing, we have been inviting people to tell to us about their favourite perfumes. Here is our third entry, from Louise, writing about Vera Wang EDP, her chosen scent for her wedding day.
How is it that a simple fragrance can bring back a memory as clearly as if you were living that moment all over again?
That’s how important picking your wedding fragrance can be and if this is not high up on your list of things to do when planning your wedding, it should be! In the years to come when memory fades and perhaps those romantic moments are not quite as spontaneous as they used to be (because let’s face it life, kids and work do tend to take over a bit), that’s when you can spritz your perfume and maybe bring back some of the magic!
I wore Vera Wang EDP on my wedding day and while my tastes have moved on, it still takes me right back to that morning in October. I vividly remember getting ready in my house with my sister and best friend, the feeling of excitement, the nerves of waiting, watching the clock ….and the emotion of being in my house with my dad all on our own waiting for the car to take us to the church…trying not to well up.
I suppose the name Vera Wang goes hand in hand with weddings and this fragrance is no different! Taking its inspiration from the romance of a wedding day, even the bottle has the silhouette of a classic wedding gown. The notes of the fragrance are just so elegant, combining both the classic and the modern. Top notes of Bulgarian rose, gardenia, lily and mandarin flower open into a heart of stephanotis, iris and lotus with base notes of musk, white woods and floral nectar that linger beautifully on the skin.
For me, it’s no longer about the white dress, but the emotion this fragrance can draw out of me, making me feel special when I wear it…….. even if it is just to do the house work or drop off to the crèche and who wouldn’t want that every once upon a time??
Vera Wang EDP is available from Debenhams. Priced £62 for a 50ml.
