Trussardi’s latest male fragrance, Riflesso, is a real revelation and marks a completely new direction for the brand. The bottle, juice and advertising campaign are just so different from anything we have seen before…….and, excitingly, it really works!
The inspiration for the launch is based on the idea of taking time to reflect on memories, thinking about the things that are really important to us and looking back sometimes rather than relentlessly moving forward. This all feels very pertinent in this day and age when we all seem to be rushing like crazy, always thinking about the next thing and not taking time to live ‘in the moment’. The advertising campaign captures this beautifully and is more like a movie than an advertisement for fragrance. Interestingly, the House of Trussardi chose German model André Haman as the face of the fragrance, another a real change of direction as it is usually the Trussardi family themselves that feature in the brand’s ad campaigns.
The juice is truly addictive! This is a fragrance with passion and energy, a truly ‘sexy’ male scent. Opening with top notes of Bergamot, Pink Grapefruit and Green Apple you get the impression of something really fresh and invigorating. The heart is earthier and more grounded with its notes of Lavender and Violet Leaf. There is also something very nostalgic about Lavender, which reinforces this sense of memories and reflection. In the base Vetiver, Tonka Bean and Leather give the fragrance an addictive sensuality. We also discovered that the use of Leather is a nod to the Trussardi tradition of glove making! The company started out in Bergamo in 1911 producing and distributing luxury gloves before moving on to larger leather goods and accessories, fashion and finally fragrance.
And the bottle…again this is an entirely new look for Trussardi, taking inspiration from the grill of a car. It is tactile, weighty and will look great in the bathroom or on a dresser.
I was really impressed by the new Trussardi Riflesso. It’s a fragrance that looks set to capture a younger, more contemporary audience yet at the same time upholding the Trussardi tradition and heritage.
