For the third in our series of ‘Talking Fragrance with…’ interviews, we chatted with the fabulous Paula Holmes, creator of the award winning London lifestyle blog The LDN Diaries:
What fragrance are you wearing today? Today I am wearing Coach Eau De Toilette, it’s the slightly lighter version of their perfume which has just launched. I was lucky enough to be given a sneak peek for my blog. I really like it, it’s fruity, floral and with a sweetness that I can see myself loving as it goes into Summer.
And is that your favourite fragrance right now? It’s hard to choose but my ultimate favourite fragrance is the original Chloe. Right now though, I have been wearing Jimmy Choo L’Eau rather a lot. It’s a light fragrance for everyday and I seem to pick it up daily!
What was the first fragrance that you bought? I’m sure the first fragrance I bought was CKone, I remember it was very cool back then and I used to cover myself in it. I need to have a smell of it again now I’ve remembered it and see if I still like it.
What direction do you think fragrance is moving in at the moment? I have seen a lot of luxury and higher price point fragrances coming out, such as the Penhaligon’s Portraits range, where they have created a family of fragrance that all link together through a story. I think consumers are looking for that step up from their usual Boots buy and looking for something unique and different.
We know what you like in fragrance but are there any particular fragrance families that you don’t like or that don’t work for you? I’m not a big fan of anything too overpowering and strong, I just end up with a headache!
Who is your favourite perfumer? It’s more about the perfume house for me. I love Guerlain! Mon Guerlain parfum is a stunning fragrance. But I also really adore the Maison Margiela Replica fragrances, they are unique and I am always excited to smell them when I see them.
Where do you usually buy fragrance? Do you have a favourite store? Duty free! It is probably one of the only times I shop for new perfume. All the perfumes are displayed together, there is the lovely discount and they also have some exciting exclusives. When I was in Portugal last year I saw a bottle by Carolina Herrera which was not available in the UK. It was designed in the shape of the shoe and I just had to have it!
Have you ever bought fragrance without smelling it first? I don’t think I have. I have got to have a smell first, fragrance is something you should try before you buy.
How many fragrances do you own? Not as many as you would imagine for a blogger, I would say I have about 15 that sit on my dressing table.
When I smell Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club it reminds me of my boyfriend.
