Welcome to the second of our ‘Talking Fragrance With…’ interviews. This time we caught up with the extremely well travelled Jamie Rockers, creator of the fantastic Beauty Rocks blog.
What fragrance are you wearing today? Today I am wearing Atkinson’s Scilly Neroli. It’s so fresh and uplifting – a fantastic mood booster on a dreary morning!
And is that your favourite fragrance right now? I have so many favourite fragrances that it’s hard to choose but that is certainly one of them. I also love Penhaligon’s Equinox Bloom and Miller Harris Vetiver Insolent. I’m a sucker for Serge Lutens as well.
What was the first fragrance that you bought? Oh dear, let me think. It was definitely Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger – the classic teen girl scent back in the day.
What direction do you think fragrance is moving in at the moment? I think fragrances are moving from the big fragrance houses to smaller, more boutique perfumeries – much like we see in the world of craft beer (I know, totally different industry) but you get my point.
We know what you like in fragrance but are there any particular fragrance families that you don’t like or that don’t work for you? I’m not a fan of overly sweet scents – I tend to go more towards the woody scents or a floriental.
Who is your favourite perfumer? I do love Annick Goutal – her fragrances are so special.
Where do you usually buy fragrance? Do you have a favourite store? I love buying fragrances in somewhere like Harrods because there are so many to choose from – they’ve got everything in their fragrance hall – from niche brands to more mainstream.
Have you ever bought fragrance without smelling it first? Never.
How many fragrances do you own? Uh oh…I think about 50 (and I use them ALL).
When I smell Tommy Hilfiger it reminds me of my teen days – so young and carefree!
