Easter is a time of chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate (and family of course!). And while chocolate is always good (we at Perfume Anorak are firmly in the chocolate camp), a pile of Easter treats means a whole heap of unwanted calories. So what’s the answer we hear you cry? Gourmand fragrances, that’s what!
Gourmand is the newest fragrance family and as the name suggests, the perfumes are all about the caramelly, toffee laced, vanilla-y deliciousness that makes these fragrances smell good enough to eat! And if that wasn’t enough of an incentive, they are generally thought to be very sexy too, as vanilla is a well-known aphrodisiac.
Gourmand fragrances are really on trend at the moment and while some might refer to them as a ‘guilty pleasure’, I am proud to say that I LOVE a gourmand. They smell great and make you feel like you’ve just eaten the naughtiest treat! What’s not to love?
In no particular order, here are my favourite gourmand fragrances:
Angel, Thierry Mugler
A classic. Launched in 1992, this is the fragrance that really put the gourmand family on the map. With its notes of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, berries, honey and bergamot, we can see why it’s a winner! 50ml available from Boots, £70
Misteriosa, Salvatore Ferragamo
This fragrance is super cute and super delicious. Its olfactive structure is both innovative and interesting, with black vanilla mousse and patchouli in the base creating the most sensuous and addictive combination. Plus, the bottle is to die for! 50ml available from, The Fragrance Shop, £59.50
Ultimate Seduction, Laurent Mazzone
Intimate, seductive and addictive – three adjectives that pretty much sum up Ultimate Seduction! Notes include blackcurrant, orange, rose, patchouli and praline – a powdery floral heart wrapped up in sweet fruity drops. 100ml available from, Harvey Nichols, £205
Viva Le Sucré, Juicy Couture
Launching late last year, Viva Le Sucré is indulgence in a bottle…and what a bottle it is! Mouth-watering, irresistible and feminine, the whipped cream, vanilla, peach and almond cream notes scream gourmand! 100ml available from Debenhams, priced £69.
Jimmy Choo, Signature
Teaming a toffee base note with sweet orange, pear and patchouli, this warm and sensual fragrance is just too delicious! The bottle is fabulously feminine and just a little bit vintage looking – perfect for the dressing table! 100ml available from Debenhams, £63.
This fragrance offers the most amazing hit of vanilla (Insulo means island in Esperanto and refers to the island of Madagascar where the vanilla comes from). Its an irresistibly seductive scent that will literally make your mouth water – resistance is futile! 30ml available from Selfridges, £90.
So go on, treat yourself!
