For me, the Acqua di Parma brand has always been synonymous with elegance, style and the kind of Italian ‘chic’ that I know I will never possess! I have long been familiar with the male scents, especially the Colonia Intensa with its notes of Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian lemon, a gift to my husband which he saves for ‘special occasions’ (I, on the other hand, liberally douse myself in my current fragrance crush on a daily basis – a kind of profligacy that the man in my life just can’t seem to get on board with!).
Anyway, it was high time I discovered Acqua di Parma’s female fragrances and for me there could be no better place to start than Peonia Nobile. I love the opulence of the peony flower, it appeals to my sense of the dramatic so I was curious to know how this most sumptuous of flowers would translate into fragrance. I needn’t have worried – it was everything I could have hoped for and I was hooked from the first spritz! Opening with notes of black pepper and raspberry, Peonia Nobile quickly reveals an intensely floral heart bursting with peony, geranium, rose and freesia. It’s a combination to gladden the heart of a floral fanatic like myself. There’s a woody, amber-y warmth to the base but it is the flowers that do it for me and for many others it would seem, as everyone I meet asks what I am wearing. This is a wonderfully long lasting scent and at the end of the day I am still catching delicate floral wafts as I move around. I have also discovered that there is a body cream which I suspect would further add to the longevity so I may have to try this next!
Peonia Nobile is the most recent addition to ‘Le Nobili’, a collection inspired by the gardens of Italy’s historic aristocratic villas. Acqua di Parma has chosen the most emblematic flowers to create an intensely feminine range of fragrances for women. The range includes Rosa, Iris, Magnolia and Gelsomino (Jasmine). It’s a range that instantly transports you to the flower filled secret garden of an ancient palazzo or a mysteriously elegant villa. In fact, as I read about the range I experience a desperate urge to pack my bags and book a flight………I love the way that fragrance has the power to do this! Italy here I come!
